Eleven POGOs have already secured their clearances from the BIR and were granted the ARO by the regulator
Eleven POGO licensees have been given the Authority to Resume Operations (ARO) by the Philippine Amusement & Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) as shared by the firm with Inside Asian Gaming.
This came about after POGO operations were allowed to resume early May upon compliance to a strict set of guidelines by PAGCOR prior to reopening, among others, updating franchise fees to the firm and tax obligations to the government.
It was disclosed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) late last month that despite allowing the resumption of operations, POGO companies are still completing requirements and not a single POGO has been given permission to reopen.
At present, there are 60 POGO licensees in the Philippines, and majority of 218 registered service providers are still unable to operate, pending compliance.
Upon inquiry from IAG, PAGCOR informed that eleven POGOs have already secured their clearances from the BIR and were granted the ARO by the regulator. In addition, “two POGO licensees who have already submitted their BIR Clearance and are awaiting issuance of ARO, pending the required inspection of their workspaces by our monitoring and enforcement department and settlement of any outstanding arrears with PAGCOR. The rest are still in the process of settling their tax liabilities.”
Gaming operations for PAGCOR operated and licensed integrated resorts & casinos, and POGOs were suspended in the whole country last 16 May following the government’s directive to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus. The country was placed in different quarantine stages which prevented all non-essential industries to operate and individuals to report to work.
While other cities and municipalities in the country transitioned to a lower quarantine level, allowing gradual resumption of all industries, including casinos, Metro Manila remains on General Community Quarantine (GCQ) status until end of June, which still prevents the gaming and entertainment industry to operate.
