A first by the Nevada gaming regulator; esports betting approved!

Gamblers will now be able to wager on three esports video game tournaments

For the first time ever, The Nevada Gaming Control Board has approved esports betting, which allows three types of wagers to be accepted by the operators. The three types are as follow: head to head, winner of each winner and overall season winner.

All wagers must be placed before the start of the contest, and in-play bets are prohibited.

The following are the competitions that the bookmakers can offer: Overwatch League, League of Legends European Championships and North America League of Legends.

The permission for esports betting was fast-tracked due to the suspension of live sports activities all over the world brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. At the height of live sports postponement, esports finds its way to the iGaming industry and creates a new audience for online gaming and tournaments.

The odds to offer for each esports contests are within the decision of the bookmakers, but prior notification to the regulator is required.

In addition, there are more conditions to be followed by this approval. Deviation from the three types of wager automatically counts the wager out. However, an application may be submitted for the state's approval in order to pass.

In previous years, gambling for esports events was allowed by some regulators but for a state to allow it for an entire league is something new. Online betting site William Hill was one of the first to participate in esports betting.
