Players urged to withdraw any funds that they may have in any of these sites immediately
The Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) is set to request the country’s internet service providers to block eight illegal offshore gambling websites.
The sites to be requested for blocking are: Planet 7 Oz, Ace Pokies, Nordicasino, Reeltastic, Spintropolis, Enzo Casino, Times Square Casino and Royal Spinz.
In a statement on ACMA’s official website, the agency acted on several complaints against these websites including withholding of winnings and poor player treatment. Investigations revealed that these websites are operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
Per ACMA, website blocking is one of the enforcement options to protect Australians from illegal online gambling sites.
“Website blocking provides valuable opportunity to alert the public to illegal gambling services though the messaging that appears when there is an attempt to access the site”, the statement said.
A total of 92 illegal gambling websites have been blocked since November 2019. Meanwhile, over 100 illegal services have been removed from the Australian market since the enforcement of the new illegal offshore gambling rules in 2017.
In July, ACMA requested the internet service providers to block 11 websites after receiving several complaints and investigation revealed their operations are in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001.
In January, the agency also requested 9 offshore gambling websites after receiving numerous complaints from consumers receiving Emails and SMS offering freebies pointing to these websites. ACMA has warned the public that the links sent out by these websites may be used to collect personal information and spread both viruses and malicious malware.
