Booming Philippines gambling sector here to stay, says Duterte

SiGMA Group poised to capitalise on Asian opportunities with Manila 2020 event

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte said on Wednesday that he was unwilling to ban gambling businesses, as China has called for, because of the benefits the booming sector can bring the country’s economy.

This is welcome news for SiGMA Group as they announce their iGaming and Blockchain super show for June 2020.  In a joint activity with land-based events company Clarion Events, the Manila 2020 event is set to be one of the largest for the burgeoning sectors of iGaming, land-based gambling, and the emerging tech sectors of blockchain and crypto.

With the support of Philippines regulator, PAGCOR, the gambling sector in the country looks set to explode and offer welcome opportunities for lucrative partnerships between East and West.

Duterte, who backed the Philippine gaming regulator’s move in late 2016 to license internet gambling, said “We decide to benefit the interest of my country. I decide that we need it.”

Online gambling companies, known as Philippine offshore gambling operators (POGOs), are a boon for the local economy and contribute to national coffers through license fees.

The Philippine gaming regulator has issued licences to 60 online gambling companies as the industry grows.
