Boyd Gaming announces FanDuel partnership and Mississippi approval
Boyd Gaming has joined forces with its fellow operator, FanDuel, to launch sports betting and online gaming ventures across the US. The announcement comes hot on the heels of its recent approval to operate in Mississippi.
Under the terms of the deal, Boyd will have access to FanDuel’s sportsbook technology and services for its online platform. FanDuel will now be able to operate mobile and online sports betting services under its brand in states where Boyd is licensed.
Boyd operates 29 casinos across 10 states, upon the completion of two pending acquisitions, while FanDuel has 8 million customers and a presence across 45 states.
The deal includes all states that Boyd presently holds gaming licenses in, excluding Nevada.
Last Friday, Boyd Gaming Corporation also announced its opening of two sportsbooks at its two Mississippi properties – IP Casino Resort Spa in Biloxi, and Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Tunica.
Keith Smith, President and CEO of Boyd, said: "Through this partnership, Boyd Gaming and FanDuel Group will be in an excellent position to successfully capitalise as sports betting and online gaming expand across the country."
"By joining forces with FanDuel's nationally-known brand, as well as their considerable technical expertise and resources, we will be positioned to build market-leading sports-betting and online gaming operations in each state as they move forward with these new forms of entertainment."
The sports-betting operations are Boyd Gaming’s first sportsbooks outside of the state of Nevada.
Smith continued: “The debut of our sportsbooks in Mississippi, together with our recently-announced strategic partnership with FanDuel Group, are important milestones for our Company as we begin to participate in the expansion of sports betting across the United States,”
“Expanded sports betting is an exciting growth opportunity, offering us another way to diversify our business and expand our appeal – and Boyd Gaming is well-positioned to be a leader in this emerging business.”
The agreement is subject to state law and regulatory approval.
