As long as these establishments adhere to health protocols they will be able to reopen
Victoria Hernández the Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce announced the decision to reopen bars and casinos located in hotels under strict sanitary protocols and
restrictions as of today October 9.
For both types of establishments, capacity will be limited to 50%. Hernández said: “We have been developing the protocols and we have set criteria that are a little more restrictive on the way a restaurant operates. We have all been looking forward to the reopening of the economic activities, the continuity of business and the regeneration of jobs.”
Costa Rica’s Casinos had been closed since mid-March. Tourism Minister Gustavo Segura said casinos located in hotels will be allowed to reopen but guests must pass a temperature screening. Slots and chips will be sanitised frequently, and alcoholic beverages will not be permitted. Gaming tables will be restricted to three people and slots will need at least six feet between them. Capacity will be limited to 50 per cent and operating hours will see casinos shut at 10pm during the week and 8pm at the weekend.
The news comes as Costa Rica continues being impacted by the coronavirus. As of Thursday, the country had reported 1040 COVID-19 related deaths and more than 84,000 cumulative cases. Vehicular transit restrictions in Costa Rica remain the same, during weekdays transit is allowed only until 10 p.m. and during weekends until 8 p.m. Transit is also restricted by the last digit of the plate number twice a week.
