Delaware leads the way with sports betting launch
The state of Delaware’s Department of Finance has confirmed that its 3 casino operators – Delaware Park, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino and Harrington Raceway & Casino will begin offering single-game sports wagering as from 5th June.
The betting will, for now, take place at the casinos’ new sportsbooks, as the status of online betting remains in limbo. Messenger betting is also off the books, as ‘accepting telephone or electronic wagers from inside and/or outside the state of Delaware is strictly prohibited.’
Following the US Supreme Court decision on the 14th of May, to repeal the federal sports betting prohibition, Delaware received assurances from the state Attorney General that there were ‘no legal obstacles’ to proceeding to full-scale wagering.
Delaware will also offer money-line bets, point spread and fixed-odds waters on events like auto racing. In anticipation of this, the Lottery’s SportsPick site has posted a How to Bet Guide that will steer customers through the mechanics of betting.
New Jersey will vote on their own sports betting regulations on 7th June, while Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced that it is now officially accepting betting license applications from its casino operators.
