Philippine President Duterte comments on the Covid-19 situation in the country
Philippine President Duterte praised the progress made in the fight against the epidemic in a public television appearing on Monday night. The number of pneumonia cases in the Philippines has been on a downward spiral and he believes that the country will eventually win the fight against the epidemic.
The president attributed this credit to everyone's efforts in responding to health emergencies. He said
I am very pleased to see that the government's fight against the epidemic has improved in all aspects. In other words, we have been working hard and I will win the fight against the epidemic. Everyone is going all out and working tirelessly.”
Previously, Francisco Duque, the Secretary of Health of the Philippines, had reported that the country’s cases havd been on a downward trend and the mortality rate is low. Duque reported to the president that this is attributed to the government’s preventive strategies and public cooperation in complying with health regulations.
As of October 19, the country has reported 359,169 cases of new coronary pneumonia, 310,303 cases of recovery, and 6,675 deaths. The government has recently further relaxed restrictions on the movement of people and further opened up the economy to revive business activities and create jobs.
Duque said that of the total cases, the country’s current cases are 42,191. At least 300,000 people have recovered, and the country’s recovery rate has reached 87%.
