Macau casino gross gaming revenue sees 94.5% drop in August

Macau’s total GGR in August fell by 94.5% year-on-year to 1.33 billion MOP, almost the same as July’s total revenue

According to data released by The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (hereafter called as the DICJ), Macau's gambling industry has been severely hit by COVID-19, and total gambling revenue has fallen by more than 90% for five consecutive months. Among them, July fell by 94.5% year-on-year to 1.34 billion MOP.

Since August 26, free travel throughout Guangdong Province has been resumed. And on September 1st, visas to Macau within the scope of Guangdong Province were issued. In 2019, the number of tourists to Macau was 27.9 million, of which 46.8% are from individual free travel visa. 

In the first eight months of 2020, Macau’s GGR fell by 81.6% year-on-year to 36.39 billion MOP, compared with 198.22 billion MOP in the same period in 2019.
