Malta Government obliged to issue public call once a casino concession expires

Dragonara Gaming Limited confident of having the right capabilities

Dragonara CasinoDragonara Gaming Limited – the company which over the last 11 years has successfully managed the oldest casino in Malta – situated at the historical Dragonara Palace in St. Julian’s - told SiGMA News that while it is considering participating in a new tender, it is confident that it has the right knowledge, experience and drive to successfully operate a casino.

Clarifying the erroneous impression given by various media outlets, that the government’s public tender for a new concession, issued last week, was something extraordinary, a spokesman for Dragonara Gaming said that this was just a normal legal process which the Maltese Government is obliged to follow.

“The Government is obliged to issue a new call once a concession comes to an end,” the spokesman said.

Dragonara Gaming held the concession for ten years, won after a public tender, which will come to an end later this year.

“The forthcoming public tender follows the same process that has taken place in the past and there is nothing extraordinary in the process,” the spokesman clarified.

The same is expected to happen in a few years’ time, when another concession, the one held by the Eden Leisure Group to operate Casino Malta in Paceville, will come to an end in 2024.

Dragonara Casino no 1Dragonara Gaming said that while it is still studying the Request for Proposals, which will grant a casino concession for another ten-year period, it is confident that if it decided to participate, it will be in a good position to continue to operate a casino.

“The company is confident that it has the right knowledge, experience and drive to successfully operate a casino in Malta, as it has done for the past 11 years."

Apart from the Dragonara Casino, operating since 1964 and the most popular since, Malta has three other Casinos.  Portomaso Casino and Oracle Casino, operated by the Tumas Group and Casino Malta, operated by the Eden Leisure Group together with the Olympic Entertainment Group, an Estonian concern.
