PokerStars tournament smashes 10 million guarantee
PokerStars smashed its $10 million guarantee for a $215 buy-in in celebration of its iconic world’s biggest weekly tournament, the Sunday Million, by $2 million. This made last Sunday’s 13th Anniversary Sunday Million tournament the third richest online poker tournament of all time.
The tournament’s prize regularly exceeds $100,000, yet for the tournament’s 13 anniversary, PokerStars multiplied the first prize 10 fold, guaranteeing the winner logs off with $1 million. The tournament bet the 50,000 entries it needed to avoid overlay by 11,342 entrants, making this tournament the second richest online poking tournament in PokerStars’ history, only second to the 2011 tournament. Given this high turnout, the tournament’s eight-figure guarantee was exceeded by over 2 million.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of this poker milestone, but the credit goes to all of the poker lovers out there who have made the Sunday Million happen nearly every week for the past 13 years, so we hope to see them at the tables on April 14,” said Severin Rasset, Director of Poker Innovation and Operations at The Stars Group.
The Sunday Million tournament started back in 2006, and there have been more than 600 editions since then. Given that the tournament's prize regularly pays more than $100,000, since its conception, this tournament has amounted to more than $750 million in prize money in the past 13 years.
PokerStars announced that they will be launching a special Sunday Million Spin and Go’s with buy-ins starting at $5 and the top prize reaching $1 million.
