Sportech board members appointed to new roles

Richard McGuire will take on the position of chief executive office, while Giles Vardey is appointed non-executive chairman

Sportech has announced that the group’s interim executive chairman Richard McGuire has been appointed as chief executive officer, while their current non-executive director Giles Vardey is promoted to non-executive chairman. Both appointments come into immediate effect.

McGuire has more than 30 years’ financial and corporate experience across the gaming, technology and horse racing industry. He joined the Sportech Board in 2016 as a non-executive director prior to becoming non-executive chairman and then interim executive chairman. Earlier this year he made the move to the US, relocating in Connecticut, where he would be better positioned to support Sportech's US business strategy. Connecticut is also where the group’s US headquarters are situated. He also invests significant time in the group’s UK, European and Asian interests.

Vardey joined the Sportech Board in 2017 as a non-executive director. With more than 37 years of business and boardroom experience, his executive career was in the financial services industry where his roles included CEO of Greig Middleton and president and CEO of Fidelity Brokerage Services.
