Super Bowl LV: Three major winners as Tom Brady records his seventh Super Bowl win, Mattress Mack wins his $3.5million bet and The Buccaneers become the first NFL team to play and win a Super Bowl in their home stadium
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV, resulting in Tom Brady winning his 7th ring. Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also the first ever team to both play and win a Super Bowl in their home stadium.
Who were the Super Bowl LV favourites?
The Kansas City Chiefs were the favourites for this SuperBowl with 56% of bettors planning to bet on the Chiefs while 44% were backing the Buccaneers.
Many sports betting operators also backed the Chiefs (-165) to overcome the Buccaneers (+145), a decision they left to rue.
However, one famous bettor managed to win big as he bet on the Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
This punter goes by the name of Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale and he is notorious for his outlandish bets for these special events. Back in 2019, Mattress Mack was not so lucky as he lost an estimated $13 million after he bet on the Houston Astros to win the MLB World Series. The Astros had lost 6-2 to the Washington Nationals in Game 7.
Fortunately, the infamous punter managed to win his $3.46 million bet, which required the Bucs to win the game or not lose by 3 points. The Bucs blew Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs out of the water, as last years Super Bowl winners did not even manage to score a touchdown. This resulted in McIngvale winning his monster Super Bowl bet and gaining $2.71 million in profit.
McIngvale explained why he decided to make such a big bet:
“Tampa Bay is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball and led by the greatest football player of all time in Tom Brady, so I’m betting big on the Bucs who have overcome tough matchups throughout the postseason.”
The Super Bowl is also notorious for it's innovative and hilarious commercials. Millions of people tune in around the world specifically for these adverts other than the actual match. Below is a video showing the best commercials of the 2021 Super Bowl:
Big sports betting numbers expected
This years Super Bowl was expected to experience a drop in betting numbers compared to 2020's Super Bowl. However, when it comes to legal bets, this year's Super Bowl was expected to generate the highest single-event legal handle in American betting history, according to the AGA.
The official numbers have not been released yet but one thing is for certain - Tom Brady, everyone in Tampa Bay and especially Mattress Mack can rest easy as Super Bowl winners.
